Alex Mitchel is an aspiring illustrator of children's picture books.

Growing up in Newbury, Alex was taken out for drives by Grandparents that shared a love for the surrounding area of outstanding natural beauty that inspired Watership Down and was also home to the creator of Paddington Bear.

With no formal art education except a GCSE Graphic Design grade A and an award as Best Artist of the year at Speenhamland Primary School, Alex finally left University and sought to become a strip cartoonist, being inspired by Jeff MacNelly (Shoe), Bill Watterson (C&H) and Lincoln Pierce (Big Nate). But to no avail.

Despondent, but now an expert in climate change mitigation and ecological adaptation, Alex got married, became an Australian and moved to Sydney in 2015, and worked with the Council to create childrens characters for their tree walk in 2020 and then a biodiversity walk in 2021.

Alex's inspiration is currently derived from Howard McWilliams (McBill), Simon James, Freya Blackwood and Dan Santat.

Alex has experience attending schools and talking about children's picture book illustration and is always more than willing to chat about methods and madness.
